LIFE DURING THE TIME OF CORONA: CHAFF AND THE GRAIN
Where did it come from but it came. Out of the four corners of the earth, Wind came.
Wind asked, “What are you doing Squirrel Girl?”
“I was watching Corona separate the chaff from the grain.”
Wind chuckled if indeed it could laugh, and asked, “So, you understand?”
“Yes,” replied Squirrel Girl. “Corona is revealing who is made of flesh and who is made of spirit.”
Wind swirled excitedly and asked again, “How so Squirrel Girl? How did you come to understand?”
Pensive, Squirrel Girl replied, “Under the sun, people fall into madness … many are tearing each other maliciously … then some show their true nature … while there are people who are not grateful to the ones who risked their lives for other lives … not many can pass the test to prove that they are more than flesh.”
Wind whispered, “It is a grievous thing to watch … I have seen so many lives on earth, yet only a handful understand what it is to be more than flesh.”
“So then, Corona came to discover the ‘handful?’ Was it worth it?”
Wind swirled as if to chastise Squirrel Girl. “Don’t think too much … observe … do not judge as men do … merely become the ‘eye’ … it is what Squirrel Girl must do. Besides the madness, did you not discover joy?”
It was true. Squirrel Girl did find joy during the time of Corona. Some people fed the needy. Some even offered coupons. Then some risked their lives and volunteered at the hospitals. She also discovered how precise the beat of the woodpecker was as she wrote under a tree, in a garden, that was like a Garden of Eden. It was enough to cause any queen to become envious. Besides that, Wind hovered over her like a friend and talked to her.
As she pecked away on her computer, the sound of the woodpecker was melodious to Girl’s ears. She pondered, however, if the woodpecker may need aspirin if he should suffer headaches. Amusingly, Philosopher told her that the woodpecker caused the headaches and not suffer it, which was a comfort to Squirrel Girl for she loved her woodpecker that awakened her every morning like an alarm clock.
As she thought of the woodpecker that pecked away and cared not a straw about Corona, Squirrel Girl felt Wind blow around her. She never failed to become exhilarated when Wind blew on her. Wind swept her up to regard men without any discernment. Wind would never leave her, and Squirrel Girl would follow whichever way Wind blew.
