SQUIRREL GIRL: LIFE DURING THE TIME OF CORONA 4

The wind whispered, “Regret not, for regret means to regret what is no more, and when it is no more, there is only longing …” What did Wind try to convey? Was there something Squirrel Girl needed to do?

Coronavirus hung around. Yet, Squirrel Girl desired to escape. She wanted to feel the sand underneath her feet. She wanted to dip her feet into the emerald ocean. To listen to the ocean was like listening to her Wind. The sea called out to her. The seduction was too great. Squirrel Girl packed a bag. In a flash, she threw in a bikini that matched the color of the sea. It was dark green.

Soon, she was on the road. The drive to the sea was a festive one. Lucky Ducky accompanied her as well as Sly Foxy. Squirrel Girl kept the conversation flowing with Lucky Ducky while Sly Foxy kept her silence. She only followed Squirrel Girl because she was promised linguini from a nice Italian restaurant. Nothing excited Sly Foxy except food, which was perfectly fine with Lucky Ducky and Squirrel Girl. Three was company after all.

Seeing the emerald ocean, the three friends exclaimed their delight. The wind welcomed them and embraced them like a lover. The sea roared with their seductive call. Squirrel Girl understood their language, they cherished her. They invited Squirrel Girl to bathe in the sea while the wind blew the scent of the sea around their smiling faces. But then, the look of the sky changed. A curtain of dark clouds descended. It was a sight to behold. Magnificent yet foreboding. It was a sign to run back to their hotel, but the three friends looked upon the sky mesmerized. Nature was astounding. Then, the rain came and it was sudden. The three friends dashed back to the hotel. Sly Foxy was the fastest. Without a care, she left the two friends and ran ahead.

Soon, Squirrel Girl too hastened for her white blouse clung to her like a second skin. Realizing that she looked almost naked, Squirrel Girl hugged her large bag to shield her chest while men were catcalling her from the balconies. Indeed, she was a sorry sight. Blouse sticking on her skin while her long “fur” was drenched with the rain. One would have thought that she was a mermaid instead of Squirrel Girl. This amused Lucky Ducky as she trailed after her.

When they were finally back to their hotel, Lucky Ducky laughed and said, “You always bring down attention to us without meaning to.”

It was unfortunate that they had not taken the umbrellas. Lucky Ducky told Squirrel Girl that she would not trust her and carry her umbrella in the future. She was certain that Squirrel Girl attracted the storms as well as the wind. Did Squirrel Girl invite the storms? Who knew?

The three friends prepared for dinner and changed their clothes. Shockingly, Squirrel Girl knew that she was in trouble again.

When Lucky Ducky came out of the bathroom, Squirrel Girl cried out, “Lucky Ducky, do you have a pin by any chance? I forgot my pin to tighten my dress.”

Lucky Ducky burst out laughing as she looked at Squirrel Girl’s low cleavage. She told Squirrel Girl, “It’s all right. In California, everyone dresses like you.”

That was no comfort for Squirrel Girl. She was always proper-looking. Yet, thanks to the unexpected rain shower that ruined their clothes, clothing option was limited. Squirrel Girl bravely wore her dress with the exposed cleavage. However, the dress brought them luck for their dinner was a success. They were given excellent service with extra food that they didn’t expect to receive. Lucky Ducky continued to be filled with mirth from Squirrel Girl’s antics. Shockingly, it was raining outside when they were ready to leave. Squirrel Girl knew she was in trouble as Lucky Ducky glared at her. Lucky Ducky looked as if to pounce on Squirrel Girl if they ended up ruining another set of clothes.

“Squirrel Girl, you told me that it wouldn’t rain anymore and that I wouldn’t need my umbrella?”

Tragedies of tragedies … Squirrel Girl looked at the rain and became terrified of Lucky Ducky.

She was in trouble, but a kind waiter came and informed them, “It’s not raining at the front of the restaurant.”

The three friends hurried their steps to the front of the restaurant. Sure enough, it was sunny. It was that kind of a day—bewildering. It was sunny at the front of the restaurant while raining at the back of it. Did the four forces of nature play a trick on Squirrel Girl? Who knew?

Still distrustful of Squirrel Girl, Lucky Ducky said, “Rain seems to follow you, from now on I am taking the umbrella when I am with you.”

Girl did not argue. She was also perplexed. Did rain truly follow her? Yet, being Squirrel Girl, she stopped traffic so that her friends could cross safely. She was very protective of her friends.  Thus, Squirrel Girl waved and smiled at the oncoming cars and dragged distrustful Lucky Ducky to cross the street. She was more afraid of dying from a car accident than COVID. Thankfully, Sly Foxy didn’t hesitate, she dashed across. Lucky Ducky stared suspiciously at Girl and saw that she was intrepid. There was no fear in Girl’s heart. Wind whisked the fear away from Squirrel Girl lest a “void” may enter her heart. After they had crossed, Girl smiled and thanked the drivers who stopped for them for she felt the light of men was prevalent among them, which caused her to become filled with joy and wonder.
