FAT CHOY RESTAURANT REVIEW
The Fat Choy restaurant in Las Vegas was a pleasant surprise. If you like bao buns, Fat Choy’s bao bun sandwiches will delight you. The pork-meat bao bun sandwich is popular among the patrons of Fat Choy, but the restaurant also serves vegetarian version stuffed with tofu, which I adored. Biting into the bao bun was like chewing on a cloud-like softness, yet it was chewy at the same time. The buns were light in texture but had substance. The bao buns are comfort food that will make you feel giddy.
Interestingly, the restaurant was located inside a small casino, named Eureka Casino, that appeared to be favored by the natives of Las Vegas. It wasn’t exactly the Monte Carlo, but there were plenty of slot machines, and people were busy losing money. Unfortunately, however, there was a sharp odor of cigars, which almost triggered a headache for me (call me “sissy”). I sprang forward toward the restaurant, wanting to escape the cigar smells. My friends may have thought that I was low on blood-sugar and was simply eager to eat.
Once we were seated, I became charmed by the appearance of the restaurant that looked retro, which reminded you of the diners in the 1960s. My friends and I took a seat in a cozy corner. As we scrutinized the menu, a woman sitting behind us came over and stood next to L Obviously inebriated, the woman slurred in speech. Swaying a bit, she said to L, “I wanna eat you …”
For a moment I thought that we had inadvertently entered a wrong restaurant, I almost blurted out, oh my god, have we entered a cannibal’s restaurant! Are we on the menu! As the drunk woman continued to slur away at L, she looked disturbed but kept a smile on her face. I was amused knowing that L was trying hard to be patient with the woman. L probably wanted to yell at the woman. If I were L, I would have said, do I look like a bao bun to you? Go get your, sorry self some coffee!
Other than the drunk woman who wanted to eat us, we had a pleasant time at Fat Choy after the chef came out and directed the drunk woman back to her seat. The waitress was friendly and the food delightful. Instead of being eaten, my friend ate the pork stuffed bao buns and looked as if she had forgotten the incident.
